Patrick Mahomes, a quarterback from Texas Tech University, has had a remarkable college and professional career thus far.
Mahomes began his college career at Texas Tech in 2014, and quickly established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. In his first year as a starter, Mahomes threw for over 4,600 yards and 36 touchdowns, earning him Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year honors. He followed that up with an even better sophomore season, throwing for over 5,000 yards and 41 touchdowns.
Mahomes' junior season was cut short due to injury, but he still managed to throw for over 3,500 yards and 31 touchdowns in just nine games. After his junior season, Mahomes decided to forgo his senior season and enter the 2017 NFL Draft.
Mahomes was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season as the backup to Alex Smith, but he was given the starting job in 2018. In his first season as a starter, Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, earning him the NFL MVP award and leading the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game.
In 2019, Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years, winning Super Bowl LIV over the San Francisco 49ers. He was named the Super Bowl MVP for his performance, throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2020, Mahomes and the Chiefs returned to the Super Bowl but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2021, Mahomes led the team to the playoffs but they were eliminated in the divisional round.
